Thru-Hiker Info
Welcome Appalachian Trail and Long Trail Hikers!
The Inn at Long Trail offers many services to hikers with the hope of making your journey easier. Please take a look at what you can expect and observe our rules so we can continue to serve the hiking community alongside our other guests and visitors.

Lodging and Camping
Room rates are determined by number of people, not number of beds. Use of beds and showers is limited to registered guests only. Cooking in rooms in not allowed.
We maintain an area across the street for hikers to pitch tents in case no rooms are available. It is free to camp across the street. Please note: There is a 2-night maximum for campers in tents. Campfires are not allowed. Use of our restrooms as clean-up stations is not acceptable.

Laundry Facilities
We have coin-op laundry machines onsite. Change is available at the front desk. Only cash can be accepted in exchange for quarters to operate the machines. Each $5 load includes:
- Washer
- Dryer
- Laundry Soap
- Dryer Sheet
The washer and dryer may not be used for heavily dirty items like shoes or backpacks. To protect our plumbing, please do not wash heavily dirty items like shoes or boots in your room sink, tub, or shower.

Hiking Packs
Packs are not allowed in public areas or entrances of the building. If you are waiting to check in, you may charge your phone in the common areas, eat a meal in the pub, do laundry, or head downtown to resupply, but packs must be left outside. There are hooks on the west side of the building (to the left when facing front door), in the woodshed (next to room #17), or in your room after check-in. Please do not put your pack on any beds.

Dog Policy
No dogs are allowed at the inn, with the exception of service animals with paperwork. This is a new policy as of 2025 (unfortunately due to repeated failures in following rules and damage done to rooms).
We truly apologize for any inconvenience.
Please note: We will require paperwork for service animals during check-in, as well as ask for the dog’s alert.

Letters & Packages
We accept re-supply packages for hikers (guests & non-guests) at no cost. Identification is required for pickup, so please use your legal name on packages. Once your package is picked up, we cannot put it back in storage.
Please note: USPS (U.S. Postal Service) does NOT deliver packges to us. No packages will be accepted through USPS. You must ship packages via UPS or Fedex.
Packages must adhere to the following limitations:
- 2 packages per person
- 25-lb weight limit
- 2-week holding period (due to limited storage)
- Boxed packages only (no bags, buckets, or bins allowed)

Testimonials
“This is one of the most hiker friendly places we have been to. Great place to meet other hikers and get info about the trail and conditions.”
“After a week hiking on the Long Trail this was the perfect place to stay a few days to relax. The Inn at Long Trail is a historic place literally built into the side of the mountain.“
“Stopped while hiking the Appalachian trail. Very relaxing and friendly place. “
“I first stayed here while hiking the AT. This is not simply a place to spend the night; the lodge is a highlight of your vacation.”
“I stayed at the Inn while thru-hiking the Long Trail, and left with fond memories and a desire to return. The room was clean and simple. The breakfast was exceptionally good, both hearty and delicious. Both are important to a hiker! The staff knew me and my fellow hikers by name, and even remembered us a few days later when talking with other thru-hikers.“
“I stayed at the Inn at Long Trail while hiking the the trail of the same name. You can definitely tell that this place caters to hikers. They offer important hiker services like a hiker box and mail services. It’s also very convenient that the bus that goes to Killington and Rutland stops right at the Inn, so it’s easy to get into town. “
“I‘ve stayed at some of the most amazing hotels but this is my favorite for so many reasons. We arrived after several days hiking the Appalachian Trail and they were able to get us checked in, exchange coins for laundry, and we were in our room in no time!“
